Blog # 1.7 a

At the entrance on the top right hand side of the game board will be a gate made out of division signs. The top middle part more to the left will be a semi- circle for the deck of cards . Next to it will be a rectangle for the word bank. in the middle there will be a twisting stone road made out of an elongated plus sign. the kingdom will be made out of math signs .There will be a small box on the bottom right side for the dice. I like this idea but i feel it needs more depth in design and thought to it .

Blog # 1.6- process journal # 2

I have started to plan out the design of my game board which I described in blog 1.7 a. i would give myself a 4 for self evaluation and a 4 for design and design specification. one blog is about the game board design and the other tells the game card design.

Blog # 1.5 - Brainstorm

Group Members: Alaina Reynolds

Name of Game: Land of Math

Subject Area: Math

Specific Topics To Be Addressed: Increased knowledge of fractions, decimals, and percents.

Describe the game that you will be producing: The game will have a board, a deck of cards , dice, a word bank, 4 mini pads, 4 pencils. and 4 game pieces. The board will have an array of colors like candy land but the game will not be based on color. The pads will be used to show work and solve problems. The object of the game is to get to the math kingdom before the other players and to learn how to add/subtract fractions with different denominators, divide decimals by decimals, and find the percent of a number. You can play individually or in teams. Each player takes a game piece and puts it at the entrance of math land. Then the first player can take a card from the deck and read it out loud to everyone. Then you roll the dice to get the number that tells you what problem you have to do. After reading the card, everyone has to solve the problem and the first one done moves up 2 spaces if correct. If they are incorrect, then they have to stay where they are at. When using the word bank, you have a section of fill in the blanks and scrambled words. The first player rolls the dice and the number that he/she gets is the number that they have to solve in either the fill in the blanks or the scrambled words. If working in pairs, they can talk quietly among themselves to get the answer. As each person or team solves each problem, they have to cross them off on a checklist sheet and write who solved that problem. When a person or team unscrambles a word or fills in the right word, they can move up to 5 spaces if correct. The first person or team who gets to the math kingdom(house/castle) is the winner.

What are the rules of the game?

a) If a person or team can't solve the problem, they can pass but the number of passes is limited.

b) If you cheat, you will have to go back to the starting place(entrance).

What game pieces will be included in your game?

a) board

b)deck of cards

c)dice

d)word bank

e)4 mini pads
f)4 pencils

g) 4 game pieces

h) pencil sharpener

What surface is the game played on? the board will have a math themed path towards the math kingdom.

What characteristics from other games have you implemented into your game? I am using the color theme from candy land, spelling words from scrabble, and cards from cranium.

What information from the survey results will you be integrating into your final design? Do people like fractions, decimals, percents? do they like board games?

Blog #1.3-Process Journal # 1

I am working by myself and I have started my survey to get some insight on what my game should be based on specifically. I have brainstormed ideas that i could incorporate into my game from other games I played that inspired me. I have also begun to think about the layout of the game which will be based on math.

Blog # 1.2-Design Task

Working by myself or with others, I will create a game that will teach a specific math, science, english, spanish, or humanities concept. The game will be designed on a seventh grade level and will be tested/evaluated by students from that grade.
